The problem of elder abuse and neglect in South Africa is widespread, but the definition of abuse remains problematic. One of the crucial areas of concern is the spate of incidents of violence and abuse against the elderly in our nation. Alarmingly, approximately one in 10 older adults (65 years and older) have experienced some level of abuse, and financial and emotional abuse, according to SA Government.
