Steph Bradshaw is a positive reinforcement & force free, ethical equestrian coach and trainer living in Missouri.
In part 1 of our discussion Steph begins by sharing her childhood and college experiences with horses and animal training. She explains what she learned about positive reinforcement working with zoo animals, her start with horse rescue, and what she learned from working with a truly dangerous equine rescue case.
Her work with rescue allows her to explore positive reinforcement with a large range of behaviors that the rescue horses present. She uses the four R’s of Trauma informed training. (Realization of trauma, Recognition of signs, Response System, Resisting retraumatization.)
We discuss the interdisciplinary trauma that happens within the horse industry as commentary, critique and judgement between disciplines is batted back and forth.
And the benefits of a “lazy” (efficient) positive reinforcement training style.
