Scripture makes the point that we are body and soul, not body, soul, and spirit. Dr Wilde will help us to understand that psychology itself is a theological study. When we speak about psychology, we are speaking about our thoughts, affections, and the causes of our actions — but that is also our “spiritual” life. Much of what we describe as “psychology” is, in fact, our “spiritual” life. Spiritual does not mean only what we think about God or prayer. Our spiritual life is how we treat one another, how we go to work, or what we eat (1 Cor. 10:31). If we think of “psychology” as something neutral and “scientific,” that in itself is a theological position.
