Five regional towns across Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania will soon be left without a single brick and mortar bank after Bendigo Bank announced the closure of several regional branches, citing changing customer preferences.

The announcement comes just months after the federal government struck a deal with the big four banks to keep their regional branches open until at least mid-2027.

  • Guest: Scott Rossetti, Mayor of Wellington Shire Council in the Gippsland region of Victoria.
  • Producer: Grace Stranger

Bendigo Bank Statement:

"Bendigo Bank has more branches per customer than any other Australian bank. We operate the second largest regional branch network and the third largest branch network nationally.

The Bank remains committed to its branch network and the personalised interactions that occur in branches every day. The Bank is actively exploring opportunities for redeploying affected team members and is committed to supporting its people through this process."
