The harmful effects of tobacco use on the body are well established. All forms of tobacco use have detrimental health effects on the body. Tobacco use remains the greatest cause of “preventable death globally”.

Smoking can increase the risk of various health problems and eventually lead to chronic diseases over several years, some of the bodily effects are immediate (acute).

Second-hand smoke (those who are exposed to smoke) causes respiratory distress, respiratory infections, exacerbation of asthma, stroke, lung cancer and coronary heart diseases in adults. Children who are exposed to second-hand smoke are at an increased risk for sudden infant death syndrome, acute respiratory infections, exacerbation of asthma and other injurious side effects.

Cessation of smoking reduces the risk for heart diseases, frequent heart attacks and death due to heart diseases by half.
