905 Round-Up: Election Intimidation in the 905
Manage episode 478371153 series 2778605
As we head into the final week of the 2025 federal election, the desperate are coming out of the woodwork.
Elections are democracy at its purest. Candidates and parties put forward their best to persuade us to vote for them. A key part of that process is the all-candidates' debate, a tradition going back to the town square. The public is able to pose questions to candidates and hear straight from them what they think are the solutions to the problems we face.
In Burlington, that tradition was ended because of the People's Party of Canada's supporters. At Port Nelson United Church, an all candidates debate was canceled at the last minute, because according to the organizers, a convoy organized by the Peoples Party of Canada was going to protest. Rather than risk the safety of attendees, the Church decided to cancel the event.
Roland comes back to talk with Joel about this form of intimidation and what it means for our democracy.
