Statement of Need According the National Human Genome Research Institute, genomic factors play a role in nine of the ten leading causes of death in the U.S.; e.g. heart disease, cancer and diabetes. If providers have a better understanding of genomic testing and applications, it can result in earlier diagnosis, interventions and targeted treatments for specific diseases, improving overall patient outcomes.
