Charlene is a rare gem, a unique artist who wears her heart and soul on her sleeve. An Alumni of San Francisco State University where she graduated with honors with a dual BA in Theartre Arts and Speech Communication.
Hailing from Los Angeles, California, she started working in Hollywood, in film, theatre, modeling and dance, and even appeared in such films as Poetic Justice, So I Married An Axe Murder and Sister Act: 2. She is a poet and a spoken word artist. In 2009 she won The Third Annual Seoul Poetry Slam in South Korea. In Hollywood, CA, She stared in her own one woman theatrical production “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” The show was written by Jones, and commissioned by HBO.
She won critical acclaim performing spoken word poetry and dance as the opening act for the L.A. revival of Amiri Baraka’s awarding play, Dutchman. The show went on to win an unprecedented five Los Angeles Theatre Awards.
Back Stage West said “she was a stirring start for the show”. The Los Angeles Times said “Jones delivered “laid back” ease performing three of her spoken word pieces.” The Hollywood Reporter said “Charlene Jones gave a stellar performance”.
Famed Acting Coach Larry Moss caught her opening act for Dutchman, and invited her to audition for his acting class. She was accepted and spent a year studying acting and scene study taught by Larry Moss.
In addition, CJ has hosted a variety of radio shows world wide. From 2011- 2013 in Beijing China, she hosted “ Media Scan” a live world news show which aired Monday through Friday on the award winning China Drive’s EZ FM radio show. Prior, to that, from 2009-2011 she hosted an eight segment radio show for GFN 98.7 FM called “Hello Korea” in Gwangju Korea. The show was a huge success in South Korea which featured interviews and music of some of the biggest names in Korean music, K-Pop and arts and entertainment.
In the US, Charlene could be heard hosting along “The Talk’s” Cheryl Underwood. Charlene co-hosted with Underwood on the famed syndicated “The Foxx Hole Radio Show” with Jamie Foxx. The showed aired weekly and could be heard across the United States.
An Alumni of San Francisco State University where she graduated with honors a dual degree, a BA in Theartre Arts and Speech Communication. Upon graduating from college, she landed a job with the legendary KKBT 92.3 the Beat, as Programming Coordinator and on air talent. Charlene did local and national commercials and PSA’s for the station
Charlie says she loves acting and being on radio. She compared them both as being vehicles by which to have a conversation with the world. She says” they are both magical. You can write, tell stories and do poetry, and teach.”
Despite already reaching great heights in her career and rubbing shoulders with VIP’s, Charlene keeps it real, remembering what’s important. “Children are my passion…teaching is my purpose”. I am truly blessed and honored to have had the opportunities that I’ve been given.” Charlene Jones is a work in progress whose story is still being told, and still unfolding.
