Welcome to The Daily Quote — a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for July 11th.Now, if the summer heat has you wilting faster than a cheap popsicle in the sun, I've got some refreshing news for you — today is Free Slurpee Day. That’s right, every year on 7/11, the convenience store chain 7-Eleven gives away free Slurpees to celebrate being 7-Eleven. It is a day for free frozen sugar in a cup?And with that cool celebration in mind, today's quote is from the always-insightful Eleanor Roosevelt who once said:“Happiness is not a goal... it's a by-product of a life well lived.”Now, you might be wondering what this has to do with frozen beverages in neon colors. Well, hear me out.You didn’t wake up this morning with “drink a brain-freezing sugar bomb” at the top of your to-do list — at least, I hope not — but when you walk into that store and they hand you a small Slurpee with a big smile, what do you feel? A little joy. A tiny spark of happiness. That, my friend, is the by-product.Much like happiness, Slurpees show up when you least expect them — a small reward for just living your day, for being present, for saying yes to a little fun. And while Eleanor Roosevelt probably never sipped on a Wild Cherry Slurpee, I think she’d agree that when you’re doing life right, the rewards — and the joy — show up on their own.So today, grab that Slurpee. Not because you’re chasing happiness, but because you’re living a life that allows you to appreciate the little, chilly things. But only once per year - those things are a bad for your teeth and everything else probably.
My daughters have been in a summer camp all week and one day they went canoeing on the lake, another day they went to an outdoor swimming pool, and yesterday they went to the REC Room which is a fancy arcade type place. They've had a lot of fun but guess what their field trip is tomorrow - that's right - 7 Eleven for a free slurpee. And this one has them the most excited. Really? Seriously? Mind Blown!!That's going to do it for today, I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back tomorrow - same pod time, same pod station, with another Daily Quote.
