Join me for a conversation with John Sheedy and Bicycle Bob Gregorio about the 2nd Annual Durango Vintage Bicycle Swap and Show taking place on July 12th at Rotary Park 1565 East 2nd Avenue. John Sheedy is a filmmaker and bike nut who has a collection of over 30 vintage bikes and Bicycle Bob Gregorio has been a bike mechanic for superstars around the world as well as for locals in Durango. This is a great event for all ages and is free to attend. There will be a bike swap, a free bicycle maintenance workshop, lots of bike art and a community bike ride. The event will cover 100 years of the bicycle ranging from the 1890’s up to the 1990’s highlighting these vintage and beautiful bicycles as an art form themselves. Peter and Evan Schertz of Maria’s Bookshop are one of the major sponsors of the event and have many vintage bikes on display at the store. Peter also has an original Penny Farthing on loan at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum. Jennaye Derge of Bike Durango, a group for advocacy, education and inspiration for bicycle commuting in Durango, will be in charge of the beer tent and the community bike ride. Local artist Jon Baily created the poster which has the schedule and list of sponsors which keeps growing! This will be a great event for bicycle enthusiasts and those who want to learn more about the history of bicycles. This truly is a community event!
