Lately, I’ve been hearing more and more conversations about abundance, which prompted me to explore how Jesus understood it.

In Luke 9, we see a striking contrast: the disciples, faced with 5,000 hungry people in a desolate place, offered a practical solution—send them away to find food. Jesus, however, spoke with radical faith: “Give them something to eat.”

The difference is clear. The disciples let their environment dictate their expectations, while Jesus refused to let circumstance define His provision. He looked instead to His Heavenly Father, to provide and to do so abundantly.

This miracle reminds us that true abundance is not born of what we see, but of who we trust.

Advent is a season of preparation, hope, and expectation. It assures us that Christ enters not only the manger but also the desolate places of our lives.

This is the first in a 3-part series on what Jesus teaches us about trusting God’s provision beyond what we see.

As you reflect on that, remember these words -- “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” — 2 Cor. 9:8 (NIV)

This has been your B Moment. Your moment to be still…to be fed by the Word of God…to be grateful.

So today, look beyond what you see.

Be Reflective: How might you begin to prepare your heart this Advent season with great expectations, even when evidence of provision seems absent? What would change in your outlook if you trusted that God’s abundance is already present, waiting to be revealed and multiplied?

Be Prayerful: Merciful Father, I confess that I often let my current circumstances shape my expectations. Help me shift my mindset and demonstrate a radical faith that teaches me to live with great expectations, even in desolate places.

Be Fed: Psalm 23:1; Philippians 4:19; Ephesians 3:20
