Is biblical leprosy a skin disease or a spiritual malady? In Parashat Tazria, we encounter tzara’at—a mysterious condition that affected skin, clothes, and even houses. But it wasn’t caused by germs... it was triggered by how people spoke. The Torah links this affliction to lashon hara—destructive speech that damages reputations and relationships. But why is speech treated so seriously? Because words are powerful. Think you're just “telling the truth”? Even true words can be deadly. Like an arrow, once released, your words can’t be called back. Like fire, they can spread farther than you ever intended.
