"So, how's the ministry going?” A simple and common question and an essential one for leaders. Our answer depends on a number of things. Consciously or unconsciously, we make assessments on how things are going based on metrics. Whether subjective or objective, informal or formal, we reference certain points and indicators to draw our conclusions. What we measure matters. Metrics shape our focus and focus shapes culture and behaviours. That’s why metrics must become consciously determined and attached to the truly important indicators of health and progress toward our purpose and intended product. If we are serious about making the SHIFT from just doing more and better ministry to actually building movements of disciplemaking, then we need to know what our key measures of that substantial shift are. This Best Practice Zoom explores what gauges we really need in the leadership dashboard to monitor progress and effectiveness on the movement building journey - speed, distance covered, fuel economy, and in-cabin temperature are important to know but not as important as direction.
