Manage episode 520067746 series 3359133
In this episode I am talking about how difficult it has been to let people in after losing my family, in particular, my in-laws. I've wondered if others feel the same.
As promised, here are some of the actions we discussed that may help you work through these feeling yourself:
Take a breath and put your Hand on your heart.
1. Name one thing you’re grateful for and one thing that hurts. Both are welcome.
2. Picture one person who feels steady. Whisper their name.
3. Ask yourself: What’s the smallest way I can let myself be held this week?
When you’re ready, here are some simple ways to try.”
Micro-rituals
1. Two Candles Ritual:
o Light one for the family you came from, one for the family you have now.
o Say one sentence of gratitude for each. Blow them out together.
2. Doorway Breath:
o Before walking into a gathering: inhale “I belong to me.” Exhale “I let myself be loved.”
3. Memory Portion:
o Bring a tiny piece of an old tradition (song, recipe bite, ornament). Name it aloud once, then let the day be what it is.
4. Pocket Anchor:
o Carry a small token (smooth stone, ring, note). Touch it when you feel floaty; repeat: “Right here, right now.”
Journal prompts
1. Where do I feel both grief and gratitude this season? What do each need from me?
2. What does “being someone’s” mean to me now? Where do I already feel chosen?
3. With my partner’s family, where do I keep a polite distance? Where could I safely lean in 5% more?
