In episode 204, Max chats with AFL Umpires Association CEO Rob Kerr! Rob takes us through some of the game’s biggest issues — from laws of the game and umpire contact to the stand rule and the future of umpiring. He shares his perspective on how umpires are being asked to adjudicate, the protection they need, and feedback on the introduction of the four-umpire system. Rob’s career has spanned some of the most significant developments in Australian football. From helping establish the AFL’s first player development program at the Sydney Swans to leading the AFLPA as CEO, he was central to negotiating collective bargaining agreements, introducing education and training grants for players, and launching the first Indigenous players camp to better support Indigenous athletes. At the Brisbane Lions, Rob served as National Recruiting Manager, where he identified Dayne Zorko and helped shape the club’s recruiting strategy. Rob guides us through joining Essendon as GM of Football, steering the club through governance restructure and rebuilding its list in the years following the supplements saga.
