The Great War began on 28 July 1914. Not long after, Britain joined, and many of her young men followed. The realities of trench warfare on the Western Front set in, but every individual story is shaped by the war. Sam, Frank, Charlie, and Alfie learn how to live with the constant threat of death, while still wondering what life there might be left for them when they get back home.
