In this episode, Kerstin Lindquist sits down with former Metro DC cop and covert operator Jamie Winship to talk about fear, identity, and hearing God in the middle of real danger—and in everyday stress. Jamie explains why fear is not the enemy but a signal pointing to deeper lies we believe about God, ourselves, and others, and how living in low-grade fear keeps us clinging to control and unable to truly hear the Lord.
He shares the story of saying yes to getting into a car with dangerous men in the Middle East, how perfect love—not force—disarmed a terrorist leader, and why the same spiritual dynamics sit under school shootings, addiction, overwork, caregiving, and health crises. From there, Jamie unpacks identity: why the real question is “Who am I in God’s eyes?” not “What is my purpose?”, how the lie “I’m a disappointment” fueled his own addiction, and what changed when he received his true name as a “militant peacemaker.” Kerstin closes by processing her own identity beyond “that girl at QVC” and inviting you to fix your eyes on Jesus, ask Him, “What am I? How do You see me?”, and build a daily practice of journaling and listening so you recognize His voice when the storm hits.
