Scott Corderman’s vocation is working as a registered nurse with Kaiser Permanente serving patients in the community that are homebound. His avocation is…the same! Scott is the volunteer chair for the Maui Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

In this tactical episode of Taking Care of Tutu, Scott walks us through how health insurance, specifically the Quest program, covers numerous essential services for eligible seniors, including home-delivered meals from Hale Mahaolu, Hale Kau Kau, or Mom’s Meals. Quest can provide emergency response buttons, medication dispensers, transportation to medical appointments, adult daycare, and assistance with chores, potentially including payment to a family member.

Scott explains the respite care grants available from the Alzheimers Association for people displaced by the Maui Wildfires and describes their biggest annual fundraiser, the Walk to End Alzheimers. He tells us how often caregivers find their own mental and physical health deteriorating and provides resources for caregivers in need of support.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • How does the QUEST program support seniors’ independence with meal deliveries, emergency systems, transportation, and more?

  • What does the Alzheimers Association do in our Maui community?

  • How can you support the Alzheimers Assocation?

  • How many people in Hawaii have Alzheimers?
