Greetings, boils and ghouls! The ancient curse has been broken, and Dr. David Goodin has risen from his tomb to discuss a grave new topic: the theology of Tales from the Crypt. We dig into the property’s entire history, from its rebellious 1950s EC Comics origins that defied “picture book Bibles” to the infamous congressional moral panic it sparked. We also explore the iconic 1990s HBO series, its all-star cast, and the cackling, pun-spewing host at the center of it all: the Crypt Keeper. Dr. Goodin unpacks his paper, “The Crypt Keeper as God’s Avenger,” and we explore everything from the devil an unwitting agent of divine justice, Tales from the Crypt’s place in the zeitgeist, the ethics of enjoying horror, Enochian Watcher angels, and more.
