Welcome back to Tech for Work! I'm your host, Jesse Nowlin, and this week has been non-stop. I'm issuing a major correction on my Meta Glasses review, unboxing the massive Oakley Vanguards, and getting hands-on with the brand new Ubiquiti G6 Pro Dome camera. Plus, I'm discussing the Galaxy XR drama and the big AWS outage. Let's get into it! 🤓

  • Meta Glasses Update & Correction 🕶️

    • An apology to Meta: The transitional lenses do tint, just not very dark. I learned modern car windows with IR blocking prevent them from working inside a car.

    • Clarifying AR vs. VR: The Meta Glasses are more of a "heads-up display" (a floating screen) rather than true, world-aware Augmented Reality (AR).

    • My updated review: I'm still on the fence. I love the open-ear audio and WhatsApp notifications but am disappointed by the lens tint, indoor reflections, and lack of all third-party notifications.

    • News: Meta Glasses demos are coming to Verizon stores, and the LA Meta store reopening is delayed to Oct 31st (Halloween).

  • Oakley Vanguards Unboxing 📦

    • First look at the Oakley Vanguards (Meta collab).

    • These are enormous but feature polarized, very dark lenses (the opposite of the other pair!).

    • Key Features: IP67 waterproof, a center-mounted camera (vs. side on Ray-Bans), and replaceable lenses.

    • Audio: The speakers are phenomenal! They are 6 decibels louder than the standard Meta Ray-Bans, making them great for noisy environments (like my scooter test).

    • Case: The charging case is large and, unfortunately, does not fold flat.

  • Galaxy XR & Android XR Discussion 🤖

    • A viewer in the chat calls the new Samsung Galaxy XR "obsolete."

    • I discuss the high demand and my positive experience with the Android XR demo at Google I/O.

    • My plan: I'll be testing the Galaxy XR on upcoming flights for work (using a Windows laptop, as Mac screen sharing seems unsupported).

    • The future of XREAL's "Project Aura" will likely be a similar Android XR experience, but price will be the key to mass adoption.

  • Ubiquiti G6 Pro Dome Unboxing & Setup 📹

    • Hands-on with the new G6 Pro Dome camera.

    • Build Quality: It's all-metal, heavy, IP66 weatherproof, and IK10 tamper-resistant (basically bulletproof!).

    • Features: 4K sensor, 2.36x optical zoom, a large 1/1.2" CMOS sensor for great night vision, and a direct ethernet port (no pigtail!).

    • Setup: I adopt the camera into my UDM Pro Max and give a quick walkthrough of the UniFi Protect settings.

  • New Ubiquiti Camera Announcements 📣

    • G6 Pro Turret: A sleek new turret-style camera is coming in Jan 2026.

    • AI Multisensor 4: A beastly four-camera-in-one unit for high-security areas (like intersections or casinos), coming in December.

  • Tech News Roundup ⚡

    • AWS Outage: It's always DNS! I discuss the 18-hour outage caused by a failed automation.

    • Google Cloud Next 2026: Save the date! April 22-24 in Las Vegas.

    • Gemini Enterprise: A look at Google's new enterprise-grade AI, which can now tap into third-party data like Salesforce.

    • Ubiquiti World Conference: I'll be in Miami for the conference—let me know if you're going!
