It's Black History Month and today we're going to focus on what companies need to do to improve their ability to hire people of color, and then retain them.

Like so many things, good diversity practices are driven from the top of the organization. You need executives to be open to doing things differently, to working with different types of people. Unfortunately the view of many leaders doesn't match the reality of the situation. The tech sector severely lacks a diverse workforce. Yet 68% of leaders feel like they are already creating inclusive environments where employees can be themselves and raise concerns and innovate without fear of failure. However if you ask their employees if they agree, well only 36% of them do.
