1. Attempted Assassination Case Against Ryan Routh

• Charges & Background: Ryan Routh was convicted on multiple serious federal charges, including attempted assassination of Donald Trump (then a presidential candidate), assaulting a Secret Service agent, illegal firearm possession as a felon, and possessing a firearm with a scratched-off serial number.

• Incident: In September of the prior year, Routh was caught hiding near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago golf course with a semi-automatic rifle. He had conducted surveillance and used burner phones. A Secret Service agent spotted him before any shots were fired.

• Trial & Verdict: Routh represented himself in court, claiming he never intended to kill anyone. The jury deliberated less than three hours before finding him guilty on all counts. He now faces life in prison, with sentencing scheduled for December 18.

• Courtroom Drama: Immediately after the guilty verdict, Routh attempted to stab himself in the neck with a pen but was quickly restrained by U.S. Marshals. His daughter, present in court, reacted emotionally, calling out in his defense.

• Trump’s Response: Speaking at the UN, Trump thanked prosecutors and the jury, emphasizing that protecting political candidates from violence is vital for democracy. He did not address Routh’s suicide attempt.

2. Secret Service Bust of a Massive “Swatting” Network

• Discovery: The Secret Service announced it had dismantled a sophisticated telecommunications network in the New York tri-state area linked to swatting attacks against conservative politicians and officials.

• Scale & Threat: Investigators uncovered over 100,000 SIM cards and 300 servers strategically placed within 35 miles of NYC. This network could have disrupted entire cell networks, including during the UN General Assembly.

• Swatting Targets: High-profile figures like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Sen. Rick Scott, and Nikki Haley were targeted. The network was reportedly run by foreign state actors and criminal organizations.

• Official Statement: Matt McCool, head of the Secret Service’s New York office, explained the network enabled anonymous, encrypted communication and posed an imminent threat to protective operations. While no arrests were announced, the devices have been seized, and forensic analysis is ongoing.
