ASBL 34 Lloyd Chapman on ASBL’s Don’t Cheat Women Project

Lloyd Chapman, president and founder of the American Small Business League, describes the genesis of our www.dontcheatwomen.com project, which aims to raise the amount of federal contract dollars that must go to women-owned small businesses from 5% to 15%.

It’s not charity. Women own 40% of all businesses. They sell what the government buys. But companies owned by men get at least 95% of federal contracts.

Without economic fairness, women can’t be political equals. Men hold more political offices and have more political influence simply because they earn and save more than women.

The American Small Business League (ASBL.com) is an advocacy group working to end the diversion of federal small business contracts to big businesses. The definition of a small business should be 100 or less employees, since 98% of all businesses have less than 100 employees. It should not be 500 or 1,000 or the 2,000-employee firms that get “small business” contracts.

Our economy will boom when only small businesses get “small business” contracts and women get a fair share of federal contracts.
