The profound yet often overlooked meaning of "Christ" offers a key that unlocks our understanding of biblical prophecy. When we call Jesus "Christ," we're literally acknowledging Him as "the Anointed One"—directly connecting Him to Daniel's prophecy about anointing the Most Holy.
Through careful examination of Scripture, we discover overwhelming evidence that Jesus Christ has already fulfilled Daniel 9:24. From His own declaration in Luke 4 that "the Spirit of the Lord has anointed me," to Peter's confirmation in Acts 10 that "God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power," the New Testament consistently portrays Jesus as the divinely anointed Messiah prophesied by Daniel.
This understanding demands we reconsider popular end-times frameworks. If Daniel's 70 weeks have already been fulfilled through Christ's first coming, death, and resurrection, then interpretations requiring a future seven-year tribulation period collapse. The physical anointing Jesus received before His burial—which He explicitly connected to His coming death—serves as a powerful symbol of His status as the Most Holy who was anointed.
Most beautifully, this anointing extends to all believers. As Paul writes, God "establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us." Just as the Shekinah glory filled the temple in the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit now dwells within believers who are in Christ. We aren't merely recipients of Christ's teaching—we're participants in His anointing, incorporated into His body through faith.
What difference does this make? Everything. Rather than waiting for some future fulfillment of Daniel's prophecy, we can celebrate its completion in Christ and our inclusion in His kingdom that has already begun. The gospel becomes not merely a message about personal salvation, but the announcement that God's prophetic promises have been fulfilled in Jesus, the true Anointed One.
Challenge yourself to reexamine familiar passages with fresh eyes. Connect the dots between Daniel's prophecy and Christ's completed work. The truth might surprise you—and transform how you understand God's redemptive plan.
