Michael Shannon
and Matthew Macfadyen star in the Netflix four-part limited series Death by Lightning, which tells the true story of the assassination of U.S. President James A. Garfield.

• Michael Shannon plays the role of President James A. Garfield, the 20th president of the United States. The series portrays him as an amiable and reform-minded leader who was unexpectedly chosen as the Republican presidential nominee in 1880.
• Matthew Macfadyen plays Charles J. Guiteau, Garfield's delusional admirer who becomes his assassin after feeling betrayed when his applications for a government position are repeatedly rejected. Macfadyen's performance has been widely praised for capturing Guiteau's "controlled madness" and "slimy desperation".
