In today’s episode of Coffee with the Superintendent, we look closely at 1 Samuel 8:1–9 and consider Israel’s demand for a king. The people longed for a leader “like the nations,” but in doing so they rejected God’s kingship. This passage foreshadows humanity’s deeper need for Christ, the only true and righteous King who rules with justice and grace. We’ll explore what this rejection meant for the Jewish mind, how it connects to the New Covenant, and how it points us to Jesus today.

In the Second Pour, we celebrate birthdays for Seungyun Shim (alumni), Joe Park (alumni), Karter in the 6th grade, and Jose in the 2nd grade. Lunch today is deli sandwiches, and it’s also Full Faith Friday—our special School Spirit Day where students can wear faith-based t-shirts, hoodies, or apparel from Christian ministries, organizations, or colleges. With no sports on the calendar, it looks to be a quiet afternoon to wrap up the week.
