I sit down with Jacob and his awesome dog, Maddy, in his studio. Jacob Coats has played in several bands in the area. Most notably he's an original band member of both Shorty Can't Eat Books and Goldie and The Screamers. I learn about his drumming career and what excites him about music in Asheville, NC.
We discuss competing for spots in school band, finding a home on the drums with fun party bands, the hunt for the ever elusive bass player, building drums and other instruments. We also discuss the benefits of learning from other drummers whether we are paying for lessons or just picking up nuggets.
We discuss DIY drums, tongue drums, modding free pianos, and church organs.
