Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, bought a luxury chalet in Verbier in 2014 from French socialite Isabelle de Rouvre, using a payment plan that stretched over several years. By December 2019, amid rising legal and financial pressure, they failed to make the final installments. De Rouvre sued them in Swiss court in May 2020 over unpaid sums, interest, and alleged breach of contract.
Facing mounting debt, the Duke and Duchess of York eventually reached a settlement with de Rouvre and put the chalet up for sale. In early 2022, Andrew reportedly settled a £6.6 million debt, clearing the way for the property’s sale.
