He renounces his feelings, and says that his feelings are absurd. He still takes extra care to wash and prepare himself to visit the mother and sister that morning. He finds the two women very glad to see him, and they offer him tea. He tells them about Raskolnikov's condition, emphasising his involvement. He remains calm and cool for the majority of the encounter, but nonetheless lets his feelings for Dunya slip out again. They show him a letter that Luzhin sent them, and ask for his advice. Luzhin wishes to never see Raskolnikov again, and asks Dunya and Pulcheria Alexandrovna to choose between him and Raskolnikov. He also tells them about the money that Raskolnikov gave to Marmeladov's widow. Dunya thinks that Raskolnikov should meet with Luzhin again, despite what Luzhin wants. The three then head to Raskolnikov's apartment.
