Sean shares advice on preparing for so-called "Difficult Conversations" in hopes that your next one will be a little less difficult.

Notes from the episode:

Scenarios for role-play:

  • Student isn’t doing their homework and is at risk of failing out of class
  • Student repeatedly shows up late to class (or just doesn’t show up)
  • Employee keeps sending strongly worded emails and it’s affecting the team dynamic
  • Employee is always marked “Away” on Slack, or declines meetings repeatedly, or just doesn’t respond to anything
  • You’ve already given an employee feedback on two occasions about low performance that could lead to a PIP; their performance has not improved
  • Or if you’re particularly brave: Your manager berated you in front of your team yesterday and you would like to help them make future feedback more constructive
