In this exciting episode, we sit down with the legendary Keith Higgins, one of Mayo's finest GAA stars! Keith reflects on his incredible career, and his experience playing both football and hurling at the highest levels and shares insights on life after inter-county action. All-Ireland champions Glen were frightened in their Derry SFC quarter-final before fending off Lavey on a 1-11 to 0-13 scoreline at Owen beg. During a low-scoring first half, the in-form Ethan Doherty scored a crucial goal just before the interval to give the Watty Graham's a 1-03 to 0-04 interval lead. Before the 40th minute, however, Lavey had levelled things up and Malachy O'Rourke, recently appointed Tyrone manager, and his players were in a bind. The tit-for-tat nature of the game continued as Emmet Bradley and Niall Toner exchanged scores, and the underdogs took the lead with just two minutes. We'll dive into: - Keith's journey through the ranks of Mayo GAA - Memorable moments on and off the pitch - His thoughts on the current state of Gaelic football & hurling - Lessons learned from playing dual sports and his advice for the next generation Whether you're a committed fan or love great GAA stories, this is an episode you won’t want to miss! We'll leave it there folks. An extra dramatic club GAA-packed Sunday draws to a close. Don't forget, we'll have reports from the two Cork SAHC semi-finals on site later tonight. In the Roscommon SFC, Roscommon Gaels have broken Michael Glaveys’ hearts with a sensational finish to the hour of regulation time in Dr Hyde Park this afternoon, picking off three stoppage time scores to send the game to extra-time and eventually deny Glaveys a first county final appearance since 1996. **Episode 66 airs 07/10/2024 at 10:00 am GMT** Remember to like, share, and subscribe so you never miss an update from the GAA Zone Podcast. #GAAZonePodcast #KeithHiggins #MayoGAA #FootballAndHurling #GAA
