“Eat With Relief, Not With Shame”: Kiley Houck’s Refreshing Take on Food and Emotional Health

In a world obsessed with calories, macros, and before-and-after pictures, it’s rare to hear someone talk about food with compassion and clarity. But that’s exactly what Kiley Houck brings to the table.

In Episode 53 of The Health Movement Podcast, Kiley shares how her background in social work and her personal journey with disordered eating shaped the way she now helps others heal their relationship with food.

“You deserve to eat with relief and not with shame.”

It’s a simple idea — and a radical one. Especially for people stuck in the cycle of emotional eating, bingeing, or extreme restriction. Kiley’s approach blends mindset work, emotional regulation, and gentle nutrition to help people drop the guilt and actually enjoy eating again.

Years ago, she hit a breaking point. After losing 65 pounds through strict dieting, she still didn’t feel happy — in fact, she felt worse. Her hunger cues were a mess. Her energy, sleep, and confidence had all taken a hit. And one moment in particular — standing over the sink crying over a spoonful of powdered peanut butter — made her realize how far she’d strayed from balance.

“I felt so much relief because I was no longer trying to force something that wasn't fitting me, my lifestyle, my values.”

That was the start of something new: a journey back to self-respect, intuition, and joy.

Today, Kiley coaches clients through similar struggles — helping them unlearn food rules, explore their emotional triggers, and create habits that are rooted in self-care, not self-punishment. Her method isn’t about willpower. It’s about awareness, honesty, and asking the deeper questions.

“We start with mindset work... looking at maybe how you talk to yourself — that self-narrative, and if it's positive or negative.”

She also encourages journaling, offers a free guide to mindful eating, and shares monthly prompts on her website to help people stay reflective and grounded.

If you’ve ever felt stuck in the shame cycle around food, this episode is a breath of fresh air — and a reminder that health isn’t about being perfect. It’s about coming home to yourself.
