Choosing Depth Over Breadth: The Key to True Mastery - 24.07.08

It is a lot more glamorous to tell people that you listened to so many lectures this month or I read so many books this tear. It is much more humbling to say I only read one book but I read it many times. People might fake humility and say, I am a slow learner so I need to read it many times to understand it. But the person you become when you go deep is a lot more powerful than if you go broad. Go deep. Read that one book a hundred times, learn it, absorb it, make it a part of your DNA. Memorize it. Contemplate on it over and over again. And don't worry about those who may laugh at you for doing that.

1. Learning Styles:- Change your learning style so you go deep into a topic, versus the more common style of covering a lot of information quickly - The importance of going deep and the benefits of this approach.

2. Stages of Learning:- The four stages of learning: unconscious incompetence, conscious incompetence, conscious competence, and unconscious competence.- Applying these stages to the you own learning process.

3. Spiritual Perspective on Learning:- The Indian scriptural concepts of Shravana (listening), Manana (contemplation), and Nididhyasana (deep meditation).- Connecting these spiritual concepts to the stages of learning.

4. Practical Advice on Learning:- I encourage you to go deep into your learning, rather than just consuming a lot of information. Don't forget the importance of humility and gratitude in the learning process.
