Thomas Burke’s 1929 short story about a serial strangler was adapted for radio and aired on the Suspense show in 1948. The audio drama stars Claude Rains, as the sergeant and Vincent Price as a newspaper reporter.
In 1949, the Mystery Writers of America named The Hands of Mr Ottermole the Best Mystery Story of All Time. In this episode, Vincent Price lends his eerie charisma to the role of 'Mr. Newspaper Man,' while, Claude Rains delivers a nuanced performance, adding layers of intrigue and ambiguity.
Mary and Greg talk about crime fiction tropes, and the 'mid-Atlantic accent' that many actors had in the golden era of film and radio.
