  • Yoga practitioners interested in expanding their practice
  • Crystal enthusiasts looking for timing and systematic application
  • Anyone desiring a structured approach to spiritual development

Brief Historical References

  • The Egyptians (circa 3000-2000 BCE) divided the night sky into 36 groups of stars called "decans" (from Greek "deka" meaning ten, as each ruled approximately 10 days)
  • These decans were primarily used for timekeeping at night
  • They were not yet connected to zodiac signs (the 12-sign zodiac came later) or Tarot (which didn't exist)
  • When the Babylonian zodiac of 12 signs was adopted in Hellenistic Egypt after 300 BCE, the decans were reorganized to fit within the zodiac framework (3 decans per sign)
  • Texts attributed to Hermes Trismegistus incorporated these astrological concepts
  • Tarot cards originated in 15th century Italy with no initial astrological associations
  • The systematic correspondence between the 36 decans and the 36 numbered Minor Arcana cards (2-10 of each suit) was developed much later
  • Aleister Crowley further refined this system for his Thoth Tarot deck designed 1938-1943

The Astrological Framework:

  • The zodiac wheel divided into 36 decans (10° segments of each sign)
  • Each decan corresponds to a specific Minor Arcana card in the Thoth Tarot
  • The Sun's journey through these decans creates a natural sequence
  • This ancient system dates back to Egyptian astrology and was refined through Hermetic traditions

SIX OF DISKS

Second Decan of Taurus (May 1-May 10, 2025)

The Sun is between 10 degrees and 20 degrees in the sign of Taurus.

  • On May 1 the Sun enters the second decan of Taurus, corresponding to the Six of Disks in the Thoth Tarot deck—the Lord of Success.
  • Moon in Taurus
  • Fixed Earth, earthy stability infused with lunar receptivity
  • Lunar expression within Venus territory
  • Bringing Generosity, balance, prosperity, and material success
  • Material struggles transform into abundance and generosity when we embrace the cyclical nature of giving and receiving
  • Progression: Moving from material challenge (Five of Disks) to balanced prosperity
  • Saturn (discipline) - The foundation of all success begins with structure, boundaries, and disciplined effort
  • Jupiter (creativity) - Expansion, growth, and creative vision build upon that foundation
  • Venus (passion) - Harmony, beauty, and passion infuse the creative process
  • Moon (controlling emotions) - Emotional intelligence and intuitive awareness provide guidance
  • Mercury (listening and thinking) - Clear communication and analytical thinking refine the approach
  • Mars (action) - Finally, directed action and energy bring it all into manifestation
  • This color arrangement creates a visual balance between the cooling, reflective energies (blue) and the warming, active energies (red), with the integrating consciousness (gold) at the center
  • The entire color scheme reinforces the card's message that success in the material realm comes from the perfect integration of diverse but complementary energies.

THE QUEEN OF DISKS & THE MOON

Supporting Cards for the Second Decan of Taurus (Six of Disks)

Queen of Disks

  • As queen of the earth suit, she represents someone who manages material resources with emotional intelligence and intuitive understanding
  • In Crowley's system, the Queen of Disks represents the watery aspect of earth - the emotional and nurturing qualities expressed through material means
  • She embodies fertility, abundance, generosity, and practical nurturing
  • The goat at her feet represents her mastery over the material realm and her ability to navigate difficult terrain with sure-footedness.
  • The staff symbolizes her authority over the earth element.

THE MOON (Major Arcana XVIII)

  • The card depicts two jackal-headed Egyptian deities (Anubis figures) standing as guardians on either side of a central path
  • At the bottom of the card, is a golden beetle holding a solar disk, against a backdrop of blue and red waves
  • In the center is a large yellow-white path leading upward to a full moon disk
  • This card represents the realm of illusion, the subconscious, and the path through darkness
  • The Moon card represents the need for discernment when navigating the realm of emotions, dreams, and intuitions, where things are not always as they appear
  • By acknowledging the temporary nature of physical existence (Memento Mori), we gain perspective that helps us move through the illusions and uncertainties represented by the Moon
