How can industry associations have the desired impact on stakeholders? And, how can they help organizations and employees navigate the rapidly changing business landscape?

On today’s show, we interview Chairman of the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), Gordon Pelosse who shares with us his distilled wisdom on leadership and change.

Growing up Gordon always had a big engine for work. He worked as an electrician, a bottling plant operator, and even a chicken catcher to earn some extra money. But Gordon was quick to realize that he had to build his knowledge base and move away from working hourly jobs if he wanted to get ahead in life.

Gordon went on to work with some iconic technology organizations like Texas Instruments, AT&T, and Compaq. He had a particularly successful 25-year stint at HP where he ultimately rose to the level of Vice-Presidentship.

One of the biggest takeaways for Gordon from his long and spectacular career was the importance of networking. In fact, he narrates how his mentor helped him out when he was at a loose end by getting him hired at Compaq.

We also have a particularly interesting discussion on change and continuous learning. Like most industries, the computer industry (both hardware and software) has gone through a dramatic change.

So, as an industry stakeholder, how can you remain relevant by staying abreast with these changes? And how can you communicate these ground realities to your clients and set the right expectations?

Currently, as the Chairman of CompTIA, Gordon is doing his bit by giving back to the computer industry. You will learn about CompTIA’s tireless efforts for bringing about more diversity and inclusion within the industry.

In order to initiate new recruits to the workings of the IT industry, CompTIA in partnership with Ryerson University launched a Tech Talent Accelerator program.

Towards the end of the show, you will learn about CompTIA’s efforts in nascent spaces like drones, AI, and blockchain.

Enjoy!
