Episode #027 – Commander Dominic Murphy QPM - Insights from the Commander of Counter Terrorism Policing London.

Commander Murphy QPM leads more than 2300 officers and staff within Counter Terrorism Policing in London, formally SO15 and Protective Security Operations. In addition to leading the policing response to all aspects of Counter Terrorism in London and internationally (on behalf of the UK Government), Commander Murphy provides national operational leadership on behalf of policing for Counter State Threats and War Crimes. With 32 years’ service in policing, 22 of which have been in Counter Terrorism and national security, Commander Murphy has led or responded to nearly all terrorist attacks in the UK or those affecting British citizens overseas since the 7/7 bombings. Commander Murphy was awarded a Queens Police Medal in 2020 for his services to Counter Terrorism and his work leading the investigation into the Novichok attack in Salisbury. Dominic has a master’s in Applied Criminology from Cambridge University and lectures nationally and internationally on leadership and response in Counter Terrorism and national security.

In this episode, we’ll hear Commander Murphy's own assessment on the UK terrorism threat landscape, his thoughts on the threat posed by both non-ideological offenders and youth audiences, and how Counter Terrorism Policing has had to change in line with an increasing and ever evolving range of state threats.
