Hey Fellow Dads,

Have you ever wondered whether listening to audiobooks instead of reading is “cheating”? Today’s episode will cover six disadvantages of audiobooks, along with workarounds for each one. Enjoy, and stay tuned for next episode, when we’ll discuss six advantages of audiobooks!

—Nathan

Disadvantages of Audiobooks
  1. They are often expensive
  2. Audiobook subscription apps are overly complex
  3. The selection of quality narrations (of free or inexpensive good books) is limited
  4. Previewing books is difficult
  5. Listening time for borrowed audiobooks is limited
  6. Not all audio recordings are made equal
Books

These stories are set in WWII—all non-fiction. Most of these war stories contain gruesome or otherwise mature content. Please preview before sharing with your family.

📚 Out of the Depths: An Unforgettable WWII Story of Survival, Courage, and the Sinking of the USS Indianapolis, by Edgar Harrell, USMC, with David Harrell

📚 My Brother's Keeper: Christians Who Risked All to Protect Jewish Targets of the Nazi Holocaust, by Rod Gragg

📚 Zvi, by Elwood McQuaid

📚 The Hiding Place, by Corrie Ten Boom

📚 Evidence Not Seen, by Darlene Deibler Rose

📚 The Boys of Pointe du Hoc, by Douglas Brinkley

📚 Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand,

📚 A Higher Call, by Adam Makos

Guidelines for Selecting a Book
  1. It should educate us.
  2. It should equip us.
  3. It should encourage us.
  4. It can (but does not always have to) entertain us.
