“Not This Man, But Barabbas!”
📖 John 18:33–40
As Pontius Pilate presents Jesus before the crowd, asking if they wish for Him to be released, the response is chilling: “Not this man, but Barabbas!” In this week’s message, we take a closer look at Barabbas—the insurrectionist, the murderer, the man who walked free. But Barabbas is more than a footnote in the Passion narrative. He is, in many ways, us.
Through this powerful sermon, we confront the hard truth: that Christ takes our place—not just theoretically, but historically and eternally. Barabbas went free because Jesus did not. And by that same substitution, so do we.
🔑 Key Takeaways
• Barabbas reminds us of the depth of our sin—and the greater depth of Christ’s love.
• Jesus is the true King, even when rejected by the world.
• Our freedom is not earned, but given through Christ crucified.
