#Bible Study With #Jairus #Deuteronomy 18 3 – We Should Take Care of the Presence of God In the Old Testament period, it was the people’s job to take care of the priests and Levites. God did not give the priests land or an inheritance. Instead, the people supported them while they worked full time in the temple. However, in the book of Judges, no one took care of the priests. Instead, everyone did whatever they wanted. If the people did not take care of the priests, the priests could not take care of the tabernacle and the testimony of God. Eventually, it came to the point that priests had to be hired privately by individual families. This principle still applies today. Not only must we be faithful in giving our tithes and offerings to take care of the full-time pastors and church staff, but we also must take care of the “temple of God” within us. God says that we are the temple of God; His spirit dwells in us (1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19). As individuals and as a corporate church, we are the dwelling place of the Spirit, just like the Holy of Holies was in the Old Testament. As the priests and Levites took care of the sanctuary and maintained the people’s fellowship with God by offering constant sacrifices to God, we must take care of our inner sanctuary. If we neglect daily prayer, Bible reading, and fellowship with God in the Spirit, we will gradually abandon the testimony and the presence of God. We will live in chaos, like the Israelites did in the time of the Judges. Enemies will attack us and difficulties will arise. Do you want to solve the problems in your life? Start by taking care of your inner “Levites.” Rather than offering lip service, we must constantly tend to the presence of God within us, like the Levites of the Old Testament.
