1 Samuel 16 opens with the prophet Samuel distraught over Saul's bad decision. The Lord, having thought he had mourned enough, sent Samuel on a mission to anoint a new king.
Samuel is led to the house of Jesse to anoint one of his sons. Except, none of the sons paraded before him are God's chosen one.
In verse 7, the Lord warns Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height... The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
The Holy Spirit prompted me this week to pause here and sit with God's idea of beauty and His desire for our hearts. We will continue the original lesson of Samuel's anointing of David next week. I hope that God's message of love here shines through to your heart.
