Being busy has become an art form; wherever we look there is some form of stimulation, but when do we truly take time out and be silent? Sometimes we want to get away from it all and sometimes the answer comes in the form of a binge-fest on the box, or a night out with our favourite food, but what about yoga or mediation as a form of taking time out?
The inner peace or silence that we seek is a form of doing something different and quietening our ego for a moment so we can bring a sense of clarity and healing to our bodies and so much more. We are a curious race who want to know more and learn more, but maybe we have been getting it all complicated; maybe the answers we seek are closer to home?
Our Guest - Gabrielle Lewis
Gabrielle is a qualified yoga therapist and yoga practitioner. She began her training at the Sun Power Yoga School and went on to complete training in yoga for the special child, mindfulness, the philosophy of healing, Pranayama, and holds a diploma in yoga therapy from Yogacampus. She is currently studying for an MA in the Traditions of Yoga and Meditation at SOAS and is in the process of completing her dissertation on the tension between embodied and disembodied practices in yoga traditions.
Gabrielle’s spiritual family is Traditional Yoga where she is in continual training with Dr Kumar, a master of yoga. Traditional Yoga is a charity dedicated to preserving a lineage of pure undiluted teachings. Kumar is a physicist by profession and provides all his yoga teachings for free. The money for the courses offered goes towards projects in India promoting yoga as a science and health intervention. Gabrielle has completed their prana samyama meditation teacher training.
Gabrielle’s teaching style is therapeutic in nature and based upon the principle of zero resistance. She encourages her students to work psychosomatically with the body refining one's body awareness. Applying gentle movements releases tension bringing the body into zero resistance before resistance training and asana can be worked with to build strength. The ultimate goal is to bring balance within the body-mind complex, from which all healing arises.
