Under the Old Covenant, God is rightly referred to as the Shepherd of Israel. However, under the New Covenant, God has assumed the role of the Shepherd of the Church, encompassing both Jews and Gentiles who believe in Christ.
God’s unwavering love and tender care for Israel serves as a mere glimpse into the depth of His love as the Good Shepherd.
God’s love for His sheep was fully manifested in the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the cross, which provided the full redemption of His sheep.
