Welcome to The Daily Quote — a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew McGivern, for May 5th. Today is Revenge of the 5th — the lesser-known but no less dramatic sequel to Star Wars Day. While May the 4th celebrates the light side of the Force, today is all about the darker, sassier sibling — the Sith. So if you woke up feeling a bit more Darth than Yoda, don’t worry. You’re just in sync with the calendar. And speaking of Sith-level sass, here’s today’s quote — one that pairs well with black cloaks and dramatic monologues from Beyoncé who once said:
“Power is not given to you. You have to take it.”
Now, I know Queen Bey isn’t a Sith Lord — at least not officially — but this quote would look right at home stitched onto Emperor Palpatines bathrobe. It cuts to the core of what today is about: owning your ambition, seizing your power, and not waiting around for someone to hand you permission. The Sith, for all their brooding and questionable ethics, do have one thing figured out — they don’t sit around hoping the galaxy will be fair. They take control. They chase what they want with single-minded intensity. And while I don’t recommend Force-choking your coworkers, I do think there’s something admirable in the confidence it takes to declare, “This is mine — and I’m going for it.” Minus the EVIL of course.
So today, embrace a little of that dark-side determination. Channel your inner Beyoncé… or Darth Maul… or a mashup of both. Don’t wait for opportunities — create them. Don’t wish for power — claim it. And do it with the confidence of someone who can walk in heels and crush rebellion. Now before we wrap up, let’s give an honorable mention to Cinco de Mayo — a day of cultural pride, historic remembrance, and also, let’s be honest, tacos and margaritas. After all, we've had enough of the dark side for today... tacos are a path to the light side.
