Are We Emotionally Numb? The Hidden Cost of Ignoring Our Feelings

Hey, it’s Earnest Mann, and today we’re tackling something big—why does it seem like people are emotionally disconnected? Susan from Portland, Oregon, asked me why so many folks she knows seem emotionally distant, and I have a theory that I think you’ll find eye-opening.

The Epidemic of Emotional Numbness

It’s not that people don’t feel anymore—it’s that they’re constantly hit with what I call "emo hits." These are emotional shocks that pile up, overwhelming us until we unconsciously shut down. Between the relentless cycle of bad news, stressful jobs, and personal struggles, many have lost touch with their emotions just to survive. The real danger? Ignoring emotions is both mentally and physically harmful. Studies prove that there’s a direct connection between emotional well-being and physical health.

The Workplace & The Feeling of Being Unloved

One of the biggest sources of emo hits is the workplace. Too many employees are treated like disposable tools, working under ungrateful bosses who don’t care about their well-being. This isn’t just about job stress—it’s about the lack of respect that makes people feel unappreciated and unloved. And that kind of emotional toll doesn’t just stay at the office—it follows you home.

How to Take Back Control

If you’re feeling trapped in this emotional dead zone, the first step is recognizing what’s happening. The second step? Taking action. I share a true story of a woman who worked under a tyrannical boss for four years before she finally got even in a way that left her feeling happier than she had in years.

Your job should not be your emotional graveyard. If your workplace is destroying your mental and physical health, it’s time to make a change. And trust me, taking the right action can heal more emotional wounds than months of therapy ever could.

So, tell me—how do you feel about this? Have you had your own experience with emotional numbness or workplace hell? I want to hear your story. Leave a comment or reach out. And don’t forget to subscribe, hit that notification bell, and share this episode with someone who needs to hear it.

First, I know time is precious, thank you for taking the time, to read this....to get to know me, just a bit.

With friends, as with many other things in life, I desire quality over quantity, and I have absolutely no Interest, in time wasting idiotic bullshit.

I'm seeking to build a community of rational people daring to discuss what the hell really needs to be openly discussed and changed, to improve the quality of our Lives.

Please consider that by visiting my website and donating to this show, you're supporting an actual financially challenged (pleasant code speak for being fucking broke) person, not some mega corporation which, corporations being corporations, isn't exactly concerned with human well-being.

Some small yet seriously appreciated support my way, here's the link - https://ko-fi.com/earnestmann - THANK YOU!

And you can listen to this, or any of my many other episodes, at - https://theearnestmannshow.com/episodes

And last but certainly not least, if you are fed up with your current existence and want to take your life in a very different but potentially much better direction, simply reach out to me, and we'll go from there.
