Webinar: The National Youth Poet Laureates Discuss Democracy, The Library of Congress, & Their Intentions for 2019!
Manage episode 234080621 series 2401834
About: In this episode, 2019 National Youth Poet Laureates and Ambassadors Maren Lovey Wright-Kerr, Jackson Neal, Kara Jackson, and Azura Tyabji participate in a webinar before their spoken word poetry performances at The Library of Congress. We celebrate National Poetry Month, discuss "democracy" as a complex and at times troublesome word for youth poet and artist-activists, the complex privileges and histories of performing in The Library of Congress, and each writer's intentions for their time together as the 2019 cohort.
*"speaking" typo -- Maren Lovey Wright-Kerr, not Whiting, and then Haviland Whiting!
The day after this webinar, Kara Jackson was named the 2019 National Youth Poet Laureate! Check out her episode below, but also send her your congrats. Note, too: this is not about one poet being named National Youth Poet Laureate. You'll be seeing these rad artists and activists all year as a coalitional cohort, so go say hi to them and comment below or on their sites with your appreciation!
