Goodbye Dad – Grief, Loss and Transformation | Day Schildkret
Manage episode 466382145 series 2019968
I recently went through the experience of losing my dad. The relationship I had with my dad was an extremely important one in my life. It was karmic, it was a mentorship, and he was my best friend. I start today’s episode by talking about my father, who he was, our relationship, and then our final moments together and his final moments on this plane. In the months leading up to his passing, when I realized the potential of losing him, I felt lost and destabilized and I was looking for something that would bring peace to me. So, when I discovered Hello, Goodbye: 75 Rituals for Times of Loss, Celebration, and Change by Day Schildkret, I reached out and we had this conversation at a time of loss for both of us.
Day Schildkret is an award-winning queer author, artist, and ritualist teacher behind the Morning Alters movement, which BuzzFeed calls “a celebration of nature and life.” With nearly 100,000 followers on social media, Day has worked for close to two decades with thousands of individuals, communities, and organizations to help heal the culture through a meaningful response to marking personal and collective change.
In this conversation, we discuss Day’s inspiration into his ritual work and how we have lost ritual in our time. We then discover the power of village and how the dissolution of this impacts our ability to grieve. We discuss how ritual brings presence and how it can heal.
Thank you all for listening this week. I hope you also felt the magic of this conversation. I will see you all here next week.
