I recently discovered that my left side is perpetually stiff—thank you, gym sessions—and my massage therapist dropped a truth bomb: “Tension is a byproduct of weakness.” Boom. It hit me like a kettlebell to the forehead. Whether we’re limber or locked up physically, the same applies to our minds. When I stride into a meeting armed with every fact and figure, I’m as relaxed as a yogi in savasana. But step outside that comfort zone—say, pitching a new idea to stakeholders—and tension creeps in because my mental muscles aren’t as buff as they could be. This isn’t about staying in the safe zone; it’s about recognizing tension as a signal to flex those weaker areas—mind and body alike—and plan for growth.

I’m applying that mindset to my speaking business, where I’m still ironing out messaging and lead-gen kinks. Ignorance is weakness, plain and simple, and it shows up as stress when I don’t know the next best step. By leaning on my Atomic Triad—mind, body, spirit—I’m carving out time for learning (mind), movement (body), and reflection (spirit). I give myself grace when tension rises, knowing it’s part of the process and a sign that I’m pushing boundaries. After all, one of my Core Values is Purpose-Driven Growth: I’m committed to evolving in every arena of life without sacrificing what matters most.

Takeaways:

- Tension signals a weakness that needs targeted strengthening.

- Preparedness in work reduces stress and boosts confidence.

- Ignorance breeds tension—seek knowledge to close the gap.

- Plan for discomfort when stretching beyond your comfort zone.

- Give yourself grace: recovery is as vital as the effort.

- Leverage mind, body, spirit for balanced, sustainable growth.

- Recognize tension as progress, not a setback.
