a spotlight on the Scripture, Exodus 5:1 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD, “Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Please Notice, that Pharaoh wasn't asked to give the Israelites complete freedom. Instead, they were to serve God, which is true freedom. This meant leaving their old gods and serving their true God. This was the gift offered to the Israelites, and Moses demanded it on their behalf as God's representative.
This aspect of the Israelites' deliverance symbolizes our deliverance from sin and the devil's control. God wants to free us from sin, not just for freedom's sake, but so we can serve and worship Him because we belong to Christ. Deliverance from sin means moving from serving sin, which is complete bondage, to serving God, which is perfect freedom.
People today often don't value the blessing of serving God. Like the Israelites, who thought they were doing Moses a favor by following him and were quick to return to Egypt at the first sign of trouble, many Christians today don't realize that their greatest happiness and duty is in serving and worshiping God. So many believers miss out on the joy and privilege of fully committing to God's service. So serve God and find true freedom.
