Mitochondria are the energy powerhouses of our cells. They use oxygen to convert glucose to an energy-storing molecule called ATP, which plays a role in numerous functions involved in neurotransmission, muscle contraction, DNA and RNA synthesis, and more.
With thyroid hormones playing a vital role in regulating energy production within the mitochondria, the relationship between thyroid health and mitochondrial function is critical to our well-being.
